BlueStacks 5 vs BlueStacks 10: Which should you download?
BlueStacks is one of the most popular Android emulators available. But, you might have noticed that BlueStacks’ website offers two options – BlueStacks 5 and BlueStacks 10.
Please enable JavaScript
BlueStacks 5 has become one of the go-to options for Android emulation, and for good reason. It’s a hassle-free option and gives PC gamers a great way to play gacha games.
When you go to download BlueStacks, however, BlueStacks 10 (also referred to as BlueStacks X) is shown and often recommended first to users. Why is that?
Basic logic might lead you to assume that the higher number is a better option. But that isn’t always the case, and it isn’t the case here.
So, let’s dive into BlueStacks 10 vs BlueStacks 5 to learn more about the Android emulators.
Should you download BlueStacks 10 or BlueStacks 5?
You should download BlueStacks 5 if you want a pure Android emulation experience on PC. BlueStacks 10, on the other hand, is perfect if your computer is on the lower end.
That’s the most basic answer possible. Now, let’s dive into the details to learn more about the differences between BlueStacks 5 and BlueStacks 10.
What is BlueStacks 5?
Before we dive into BlueStacks 10, it’s best we clearly explain what BlueStacks 5 offers mobile gamers who play on PC.
BlueStacks 5 is a safe Android emulator that mimics a traditional smartphone. It gives you full access to things like Google Play, which is how you download apps and games.
BlueStacks was first released in 2011, and has since had many updates and new versions to improve the emulator.
The popular Android emulator is available on PC, but Mac users will find the experience limiting.
Pros of BlueStacks 5
- It’s a lightweight emulation program
- It allows you to easily emulate Android apps on PC
- BlueStacks uses your RAM and CPU efficiently (perfect for budget laptops)
With BlueStacks 5, users get a fast app that can run a ton of mobile games without much effort. It features an easy-to-use interface, and both Android and iOS users should feel right at home.
What version of Android does BlueStacks 5 run?
Currently, Android Pie (Android 9) is the default version of Android on BlueStacks 5.
However, when you create new instances on BlueStacks, you have the choice between Nougat (32-bit), Nougat (64-bit), and Pie (64-bit).
Depending on the game, you may find you need to create a new instance in order to meet compatibility standards for a certain game. Credit: MobileBytesGG
Don’t worry though, we break down everything you need to know about creating new instances in BlueStacks here.
What version of BlueStacks are we on?
BlueStacks 5 is the current version, but we expect to see BlueStacks 6 in the coming years, most likely in 2024.
What is BlueStacks 10 (BlueStacks X)?
BlueStacks 10 is surprisingly not the same basic Android emulator that many people around the world use on a daily basis.
BlueStacks 10 is actually for cloud game streaming and is the company’s answer for low-powered machines.
You still get access to many of the main BlueStacks features, but you do need a solid internet connection to really take advantage of cloud gaming.
Generally speaking, BlueStacks 10 should only be considered as an alternative. If you tried BlueStacks 5 and your computer wasn’t up to the task, then the cloud gaming option might be for you.
Pros of BlueStacks X
- Play games on any PC without worrying about specs
- No downloading games, which saves time and resources
- Access to over 2 million games through cloud gaming
So, as you can see, there are definitely some perks to BlueStacks X (10). But, before you get too excited, you need to make sure your internet is up to the task.
What internet speeds do you need for BlueStacks X?
Now, one thing to keep in mind when using a cloud gaming service is internet speeds. Because things are being delivered live, you’ll need an internet connection that can keep up.
Thankfully, BlueStacks X doesn’t have huge requirements. Players will need a stable internet speed of 5 Mbps.
Most internet providers can reach those speeds without too many issues.
Something unique about BlueStacks X, however, is that it uses an AI system to determine if you can stream games from the cloud or if you’d be better off downloading the game to the App Player.
BlueStacks 10 vs BlueStacks 5 – which is better?
In the debate of BlueStacks 10 vs BlueStacks 5, there are a bunch of things to consider.
While cloud gaming might be a solid option for some users, many will want to stick with BlueStacks 5. This is because it is a tried-and-true emulator that works with a ton of mobile games.
BlueStacks 5 allows you to quickly access the Google Play Store, or, if you prefer, something like TapTap.

How To Update Bluestacks Android Version 7 To 9 Pie For PC
Bluestacks has just launched their biggest update, BlueStacks 9 beta, which carries Android Pie (Android 9 emulator) as its OS. Many Android emulator developers are competing to update their projects to Android 9 because it is to keep up with the current game and application updates.
This Android Pie Emulator development is very good for Bluestacks development because Bluestacks is the most superior Android Emulator among other Android emulators such as NOX, LD Player, MuMu App Player, and many other Android emulators.
It’s important to note that Android 9 is only available on the latest version of BlueStacks 5. This means that, if you haven’t done so already, you should download and update to the most recent version of this emulator, in which you will find the Android 9 version when you create a new instance in the Instance Manager.
For long-time users of BlueStacks, the process for accessing Android 9 on BlueStacks will be very easy and familiar, and would take only a few minutes. However, if you’re new and just getting started with Bluestacks Android app player.

Please follow these simple steps to create a new instance with Android 9:
- Download and install the latest version of BlueStacks 5 on your PC.
- Once loaded, press Ctrl + Shift + 8 to access the Instance Manager, or click on its corresponding button on the rightmost panel.

- In the Instance Manager, click on “New instance”, followed by “Fresh Instance”, and then select “Pie 64-bit (Beta)” from the dropdown menu.
- Give your new instance enough resources to run adequately. If your PC meets the recommended requirements for BlueStacks 5, simply add 4 CPU cores and 4GB of RAM to it.
- After BlueStacks finishes downloading and installing your new instance, click on the “Run” button in the Instance Manager to run it.
Afterward, playing on this new instance is business as usual; you simply need to install the games you want, and you’re good to go.
Note: This new addition is meant to be used for playing games that run exclusively on Android 9 and onwards, and functions essentially as an extension of the current BlueStacks version.
You can have both Android 7 and Android 9 instances in one BlueStacks 5 client, even running at the same time, and there are no drawbacks to doing this. Nevertheless, please remember that running multiple instances will occupy more of your PC resources, and you’ll need to adjust accordingly.

BlueStacks 5: Everything you need to know about the Android emulator
Bluestacks 5 is the latest release from the venerable Android emulator. For the unfamiliar, Bluestacks is an app you install on your computer that lets you play Android games and use Android apps. Given that Bluestacks has long been one of the best Android emulators for PC and Mac, we believe that Bluestacks 5 overall continues that proud tradition. In this article, we’ll talk about Bluestacks 5, how it works, and how you can get it.
QUICK ANSWER
Bluestacks 5 is an Android emulator for PC. It launched in February of 2021, and represents the latest edition of the emulator. It runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box, but there are Android 9.0 Pie and Android 11 versions available as well.
JUMP TO KEY SECTIONS
What is Bluestacks, and how does it work?

Bluestacks is an Android emulator that runs on PC and Mac. An emulator is a virtual machine that runs an entirely different operating system from the machine it runs on. Bluestacks uses this technology to run Android on your computer without your computer needing to do anything special.
There are a lot of examples of this. For instance, there are console emulators for SNES, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and many others. In addition, macOS users may be familiar with Parallels, an emulator that runs Windows on Macs. It’s all the same general idea. Emulators allow you to run software that your computer otherwise wouldn’t be able to run.
What version of Android does Bluestacks run?

Bluestacks 5 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat by default. It’s an older version of Android, but it should still run most apps and games. However, you do have a few other options.
- Nougat (32-bit and 64-bit) — The stable versions of Bluestacks 5 include the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
- Pie— Android 9.0 Pie is also available as a stable release.
- Android 11(beta) — Bluestacks 5 also includes a beta for Android 11, which is the newest version of Android the emulator is capable of running.
You can switch between these versions of Android by using the Instance function in Bluestack’s Multi-instance Manager. However, if you just launch and run Bluestacks 5, it’ll be using Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
Bluestacks 5 system requirements

Bluestacks doesn’t require a super expensive system to run. However, the better your specs, the better the emulator runs. You’ll likely see more lag and freezes as you get closer and closer to the minimum specs. Here are the system requirements for Bluestacks.
- OS — Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- CPU — Any modern Intel or AMD processor.
- RAM — At least 4GB of RAM.
- Storage — At least 5GB of free disk space.
- Other — Bluestacks recommends you be on an administrator account, with up-to-date graphics, and all possible virtualization features turned on within your PC’s settings.
Those with Macbooks can check out the Bluestacks specs page for macOS. It’s a bit more complicated than Windows, since Bluestacks 5 isn’t available for macOS, and Bluestacks 4 doesn’t work with a lot of modern macOS hardware and software.
How to install Bluestacks

Installing Bluestacks is a pretty straightforward process. The following is for Bluestacks 5 specifically.
If you are installing Android 9.0 Pie or Android 11 versions of Bluestacks, you have some homework to do before installation. You'll need Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, Windows Hypervisor Platform, Windows Sandbox, and Windows Subsystem for Linux installed and enabled on your PC. Bluestacks has a full list along with instructions on enabling each feature. However, folks with Windows 10 or Windows 11 Home editions may need to install all of those features from scratch.
- Head to the Bluestacks download webpage and hit the Download button next to the version you want. We recommend Android 9.0 Pie for now.
- Go to your Download folder and double-click the file you downloaded.
- Hit Install now.
- Bluestacks will install. Just let it do its thing. It may take a bit, depending on your PC specs and Internet connection.
- If Bluestacks asks for Hyper-V access, grant the permission and reboot your computer.
- Once done, Bluestacks is installed and ready for use.
- Note — If you use a version with Hyper-V support, you may need to run Bluestacks 5 with administrator privileges to get it to open.
Bluestacks should only ask for Hyper-V access if you install Android 9.0 Pie or Android 11. Those with the Home edition of Windows or those who don’t want to deal with Hyper-V stuff can install the Nougat version of Bluestacks to bypass it entirely.
How to get started with Bluestacks 5

Once installed, you simply need to open the app. Those with the Android 9.0 or Android 11 variants will need to enable some Windows settings. You can find help with those on Bluestacks’ official website. Once the app is opened, here are some things you should do to get started.
- Once Bluestacks loads, your first step should be to open the Google Play Store and sign in with your Google account.
- After that, just download the apps or games you want and use them.
That’s really it. Once you’re set-up, logged in, and ready to go, your computer now acts like a big Android tablet. Simply use it as such to get a full Android experience on your PC.
For the most part, you can map controls within games that support hardware controls. Your keyboard should work natively in every text field. However, Bluestacks has tutorials for setting up game controls and keymapping, as well as creating controls in the controls editor. That’s a good starting point for those wanting to game on Bluestacks 5.
