Huawei MateBook D (2018) Disassembly and SSD, RAM, HDD upgrade options
The Huawei MateBook D (2018) has released silver and obsidian black two new variants in the early of this January. The laptop we will disassemble is powered by Intel’s eighth-generation Core processor coupled with NVIDIA MX150 independent graphics card. Its performance has been greatly improved. The laptop comes with 8GB DDR4 and 128GB SSD coupled with 1TB HDD. 
The MateBook D (2018) features a 15.6-inch 1,080p anti-glare display. As a thin and lightweight laptop, the variant’s thickness only reaches 16.8mm (the thickest part), and it weighs 1.9kg. The narrow bezel design makes the laptop look small and exquisite.
The laptop adopts all-metal design and has applied the brief design on each surface with good touch feeling. The ports on the left include two USB3.0 ports, a USB2.0 port a standard HDMI port and two-in-one audio port. The MateBook D (2018) provides small portable power adapter.
The right side of the laptop only provides a USB2.0 port. This variant doesn’t come with a fingerprint reader and an all-in-one SD slot. It doesn’t feature a backlit keyboard.
It is the laptop’s back cover.
The screws on the back are of the same specification. The internal screws have the different specification. Prepare the relative tool for the disassembly.
Except for visible screws, there are also four mats on the back cover. First of all, remove the hidden screws under two mats. The mats are stuck by the double-sided tape.
After removing all screws from the back cover, we can separate the back cover from the laptop body. The back cover is thin.
There are snaps on the verge of the back cover. We need to be meticulous to avoid breaking snaps while removing the back cover.
It is the internal structure. The laptop has a compact design on its internal structure. We can see a fan at the left top corner. The fan and copper pipe constitute the heat dissipation module. The processor and graphics card are placed under the copper pipe.
We can see that the M.2 port SSD and a 2.5-inch HDD on the left. The black chunk on the right is the battery. Two speakers are placed on the left and right.
If you want to continue the disassembly of the rest accessories, you need to power off the internal structure.
The silver Huawei MateBook D (2018) comes with a 128GB SSD coupled with a 1TB HDD, which can be changed. For most users, there is no need to upgrade. Of course, you can use two SSD.
Here is Intel’s Wi-Fi module. The Wi-Fi module needs to be taken out while disassembling the motherboard.
There is no need to remove two speakers on the two sides. All we need is to disconnect the cable which connects the speakers to the motherboard.
These ports are wielded on the motherboard. The USB port on the motherboard adopts independent design. Remove the screws used to fix the motherboard near the port while disassembling the motherboard. Besides, remove the screws from the hinge, and then the motherboard can be taken out.
The USB port uses independent circuit board. The fan can be removed.
The laptop sports a three-chip 3800mAh battery which can work approximately 9 hours. The battery is fixed by screws. We can easily take out the battery.
The battery is thin.
It is the internal structure without the battery. After removing the battery, we can continue to disassemble other accessories.
The MateBook D (2018) comes with SanDisk’s X400 128GB SATA3 SSD with the M.2 port.
It is the SanDisk SSD with M.2 SATA 3 port.
Huawei MateBook D15 RAM and SSD Upgrade?
Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) model is definitely laptop with good design features and some excellent specs, depending of the model You decide to purchase as they do come in several different configurations.
Personally have to say that i'm pretty pleased with every aspect of this machine, except upgrade options and missed backlit keyboard but Full HD screen is full of vibrant colors and best feature what i have not seen before: Webcam is placed inside of the keyboard, you will have to push F7 button to enable camera on this laptop, that's the feature i have not seen on any other laptop, very impressive as fas as design and functionality goes.
Going back to upgrading, for most of us doesn't really matter, as long as websites open in good time and we can browse FaceBook and YouTube but there's always some room for improvement. Maybe 3 years from now You want to add more memory or upgrade to faster hard drive, follow these steps below to see is it possible to upgrade Huawei MateBook D15 Ram or SSD.
How to open Huawei MateBook D15!
Im pretty sure everyone has some sort of screwdriver available to use in their household but to open up Your MateBook you will need Torx T5 screwdriver, see picture below:
These screwdrivers are widely available to purchase online but before wasting any of your hard earned money please go and see maybe you already have one.
Once you have the required screwdriver then please remove 10 x T5 screws on the bottom panel. See image below:
Once screws removed, you can remove pack panel, i don't recommend using anything made out of metal, try to use something made of plastic to remove pack panel of this laptop, even old credit card will do.

As You can see from the picture above: Upgrade options are really limited for this laptop..
Looks like Huawei have used shell of older laptop model where upgrading of the 2.5" hard drive was possible as you can see on the picture above there's a space for additional hard drive but there's no connection to the motherboard from it.
Good news: SSD M.2 is totally upgradable, recommended solid state upgrade for this laptop: Samsung 980 500GB.
RAM upgrade also is not possible with this model, all memory is soldered to the MB, as you can see from picture there's no upgrade slots for memory.
Now. this information applies to Huawei MateBook D 15 2020 Model, if you have older or newer version of this laptop then maybe you are lucky enough and are able to upgrade.

1. Подготовка к разборке:

Для разборки нижней части нужно снять все винты на задней панели ноутбука. Затем снимите нижнюю часть корпуса, осторожно отсоединяя все шлейфы, включая шлейф жесткого диска и системного вентилятора. Теперь можно далее заменять/ремонтировать неисправные компоненты.
5. Дополнительные советы по разборке Huawei D15:
• Перед разборкой не забудьте выключить ноутбук и отключить все внешние устройства.
• Для удобства можно использовать магнитный держатель для закрепления винтов, т. к. они могут быть очень мелкими.
• Аккуратно обращайтесь с шлейфами, они могут быть очень хрупкими и легко повреждаются.
• Пользуйтесь только специальным инструментом для откручивания винтов и не используйте силу, чтобы избежать повреждений корпуса и внутренних компонентов.
